What are the ways to prevent premature birth?
While the exact cause of preterm birth is often unknown, there are some things that can be done to reduce the risk. These precautions are more important especially in pregnant women who are in the risk group for premature birth. Possible applications may include; • Progesterone supplements: The risk of preterm birth can be reduced by taking progesterone supplements to women with a history of preterm birth, a short cervix (cervix), or both. •

Cervical cerclage. Especially in women with an increased risk of preterm birth, the cervix, that is, the cervical length, can be measured with the help of transvaginal ultrasound, and the possibility of preterm birth can be predicted. The risk is increased in women with a short cervix. Cervical cerclage is a surgical procedure applied to pregnant women with a short cervix or a history of cervical insufficiency resulting in preterm delivery. During this procedure, the cervix is ​​closed with strong stitches that can provide extra support. The sutures are removed when it is time to give birth.
