What is heart rate?

What is heart rate? The pulse, popularly known as the heartbeat, is the force that the constantly working heart exerts on the blood vessels by contracting and relaxing.

The simplest answer to the question of what is a pulse is to feel how many times the heart contracts in a minute with different techniques. With each contraction, the blood is first sent to the aorta and then to the other vessels with pressure. Thanks to their elastic structure, the vessels constantly expand and then narrow. This enlargement can be felt by groping in places close to the surface, such as the wrist, temple and groin.

What should a normal heart rate be?

Pulse beats are rhythmic and full. It varies for many reasons. Normal heart rate values differ from person to person, but must be within a certain range. It is normal for adults and healthy people to have a heart rate in the range of 60-100 beats per minute. In people who have been involved in sports for a long time, the heart rate drops to 45-60 levels. The lower your heart rate is at rest, the better. Because when the heart rate is high in its normal course, it can cause life-threatening situations such as stroke and heart attack. If your heart beats between 50-70 per minute, it can be said to be very good, if it beats between 70-85, it can be said to be a normal pulse, if it is 85 or more, it can be said to be a high pulse. Even if you do not have any complaints, it is important to measure your heart rate from time to time during rest so that you can understand possible differences and consult a doctor when necessary. If there is no factor that will affect your heart rate, if your pulse is lower than normal and accompanied by complaints such as fatigue, dizziness and fainting, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. High heart rate is also a condition that needs attention. Generally, the increased pulse rate as a result of a physical and emotional change stabilizes on its own after a while. However, if the pulse is constantly fast during rest, it is important to investigate the cause and prevent this situation. Smoking and anemia, which is known as anemia among the people, are among the factors that increase the heart rate. It is normal and healthy for your heart rate to drop to lower levels six months after quitting smoking.
